And several reactive women are attacked and mutilated. There is something very depressing and annoying about seeing unnecessary pain.

Excellent point. I don’t even mind violence and fore in the context of combat in cinema or video games, like the Iliad is one of the first works of western literature and it is all about violence. But each warrior who dies you at least know where they came from and who they were, whose children they were; and what they thought they were fighting for. Same goes for movies like 300 and such which are about the bravery and dignity of the warriors sacrifice. Actual meaning and reason behind why the violence is happening, and showing the beauty and valor of combat, between men and for their people, but in solemness at heir sacrifice… which should only be in the context of securing the future.
But horror movies are not about any fo that. They reflect the predator aspect of the worst representatives of human nature.
If you try and avoid/deny subconscious impulses they will find a way out. The only why to disarm them is acknowledge them and rationally deal with them.
