Ukraine can't join NATO with unresolved territorial disputes, because this threatens to draw NATO in solving those disputes. So if Ukraine joins NATO, then Ukraine can ask assistance in returning Crimea - and that would mean a war with Russia for every NATO member, and not because Russia attacks NATO, but because NATO allowed a country to join and then use NATO as a tool for solving its disputes with Russia.
Should i remind you that war with Russia can turn nuclear very fast ? So why would NATO want Ukraine?

Because since the Soviet Union collapsed Eastern European countries like Belarus, Ukraine etc. have been in a tug of war of whether it wants to be more like Russia and China or it's Western Allies, Europe/Nato and the like. With Crimea gone and the surrounding area surrounded by Russia there is no reason to try to hold on to it.
