The government would fuck this up so badly. Just disincentivize people from being unhealthy and take certain foods/beverages off the market. Maybe build some government fitness facilities that people can pay into with their taxes and use without needing to go out and buy memberships. Bring back proper physical fitness education to schools and cultivate a youth culture that venerates athleticism.
We need shit like this if we’re going to fix the obesity problem.

They did the same in the good old Germany as well as in the Communist East Germany. In North Korea and China it's normal to see hundreds of people do gymnastics in public. Just saying, it's possible to make it part of your everyday culture with putting guns on people's heads because people want to be fit and they have fun doing it together, it only has to be encouraged. In the West mass exercise would catch negative press in a short time and it would be discouraged because pharma and big health would lose profit.
