As of now, all sings point to invasion. Russia has build up enough forces to attack from all sides, built up enough logistical support and this time we even have a lot of field hospitals and blood banks ready. Shit like that doesn't show up during "exercises" in such a huge quantity.
Optimists think Putin is playing a big game of chicken with the west and hopes everyone just leaves Ukraine to him without a shot fired.
Other people basically called the invasion in January, as china would be pissed off if Putin starts his action during the olympic games.

Probably won't. Russia's playing its usual game trying to regain its sphere of influence, but they were too impatient. If they did the same thing a year from now, they'd get away with it.

Before Russia started the whole gas supply mess, things were looking up. Democrat government in the US was returning to the old policy of leaving Europe to Germany. 40% of Germany's gas imports came from Russia even before NS2. Had they waited one more year, NS2 would open and they and Germany could divide Eastern Europe.
Instead they got impatient over NS2 taking too long to open. First they tried what always worked in Eastern Europe, gas supply blackmail. That backfired since western Europe is not used to such methods. This legitimized everything Poland has been telling them about Russia's approach to gas contracts.
Now they're trying to raise the stakes. This is backfiring again, because US is now forced to take a stance and return to Europe. New German government is inexperienced and is making huge diplomatic blunders, making the situation even worse for Russia and Germany.
Expect Russia to show off even more, then take some exit plan instead of going to war. Maybe proclaim DNR and LNR as independent. Maybe annex Belarus. Anything to get out of this mess and save face.

From what I understand, nobody wants an actual war, but it might happen because tensions are high.

Ukraine are being faggots because part of them want to enter NATO, at least the western side and the leadership. Eastern side is more chill with Russia. If Ukraine joins NATO, then NATO is obligated to counter-attack if Russia invades, or else they will all look like huge pussies.

Best case scenario is something in the talks deflates the entire situation and Russia retreat. Likely scenario is Russia invades and the rest of the world watches, like with Crimea. Unholy scenario is the entire west is sucked into conflict with Russia, to the delight of Ukraine. Wildcard China could be making interesting decisions from there onwards. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they'd stab a very unpopular Russia in the back, but I digress.
