Why are there so many Scot-Irish in this country?
Ireland has 5 million people. There are more than 6x as many Irish in America.
Scotland has 5.5 million people. There are 4-5x more Scots in America.
Germany has more Germans. England has more English. France has more French. Italy has more Italians.
But these 2 countries not only have more, it's 4-6x their native country's population.

Before the potato famine there was estimated 9-10mil Irish in Ireland. Many of those died, the rest immigrated to US, and the domestic population count has never recovered.

I got dragged to an Irish-Scottish festival in America once. It was the cringe experience I have had. Somewhere between biker gatherings filled with weekenders with shining new bikes and pristine leather and Rodeos with people faking a Larry the Cable Guy style accent. Much like the comedian himself.

Everyone says they are Irish or Scottish because it makes them feel unique. Sure, there are a lot of Americans who do have Irish and Scottish blood but a majority of white americans are German, English, and Italian.
