Also, however much anime you think is out there, there's more. Every season brings out like ~30 new series, every 3 months. That's like 120 new shows a year.
Some are great but kind of go unnoticed, and many are trash. But the idea is after decades, you'll still wind up with hundreds of titles at least worth checking out. Plus hundreds of OVAs and movies. Looking at Lucky Star or whatever flavor of the month is out currently is hugely missing the big picture.
