The f-35 is a dog shit airplane. USAF is autistic and wanted a stealth airplane with VTOL, so they had to make an airplane with internal weapons bays and a lift fan. They also had to somehow put a stealth "coating" on it. Incidentally they made the most powerful jet engine to date just so it could fly, but because of complacency the jet has supersonic flight limitations. The problem is that you have a mostly subsonic aircraft that relies on internal weapons because if it carried them externally then it's stealth wouldn't work. So what happens if your enemy could actually see you all this time?
