Actually where I live it's making a comeback too. Alberta if it matters.

It used to be all sales jobs, and now the only jobs are basically general labour, some sort of production line labour, and IT jobs that I assume monitor the production lines.

in reality it feels like '09 again, the job i most recently landed had 400 fucking applicants

Well I did. I got a few CompTIA certs back in 2019 but they didn't mean shit. I got a government job where I was mostly doing IT stuff (developing SQL databases, setting up network infrastructure), and now I'm seeing that what I trained for is actually in demand in the market.

Depends on what you like to do. I like networking and shit so I got into that.

Virtually anything that you require an office worker to do can be automated with an Excel spreadsheet and VBA code.

Just depends on the industry. If you go into a pure tech company, you get to deal with that. If you go into a manufacturing company, everyone is a boomer.

I dont know honestly. I wish there was an IT assessment test I could take to help narrow it down. My plan is to just get my associates, land a job, and then chase after my bachelors. All I know is I dont want to be a Trucker anymore.

My own version of IT assessment was jumping into something I thought I'd like which was web development. I got a pretty good look at the industry from that point of view and it helped that my company provided all sorts of services.

There's a stupid amount of things you can do in the IT world some of which overlaps and some of which is mostly on its own. You don't have to stick with one thing either because you'll likely learn a lot as you get into it.
