They aren't proven to be harmful in the sense of scrambling your DNA or whatever. They are known to be harmful in the sense that state actors can use them to track the movement of objects and people within buildings. It's sort of like the whole "cell tower triangulation" thing, but with extreme detail.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Looking too closely will cause massive losses to the industry. Other forms of wireless signals took a decade or more to get some decent safety studies while we were using them everywhere, and in some cases harm was detected. I think some kind of cellphone or bluetooth signal got linked to brain cancer or something along those lines.
