The big issue is they join, get the surgery, get paid to do nothing because recovery is at least 6 months, and often much longer - plus treatment/pre-treatment usually medically exempts them from shit like training - and then discharge at the earliest possible moment. Oh, and they get medical disability (again, all taxpayer-funded) from the VA afterward too because they got mutilated and are mentally ill anyway.
