Background: Whoopie Goldberg is a black stand-up comedian from the US that made her name in the 80s and 90s with other top billed comedians. For some years now, she's been a co-host on The View, a round table talk show where 4-6 guests sit around a table and talk about current events every weekday for about an hour in the morning.
Conflict: Whoopie Goldberg called Jewish people "white." Said that the holocaust wasn't about race because it was white on white crime. Goldberg said that the holocaust was about the inhumanity of the Nazis.
Response to the conflict: The network that hosts The View suspended Whoopie Goldberg for two weeks for offensive comments.
Alt Rights Response: The alt right has had varied responses. One is saying that tv networks are controlled by Jewish people and that Goldberg opened a can of worms that the Jewish people do not want to deal with. That is, Jewish people being lumped in with white people. Alt right regularly say that the Jewish person does not want to be grouped with anyone and will fight to be singled out (eg, the use of "racial antisemitism" instead of "racism"). Also, as many non-Jews died in the Nazi genocides as much as Jewish people but the media narrative doesn't want to focus on that (again this was the alt right is saying). Another interesting response from the alt right was to be offended. They bombarded Whoopie with accusation of insensitivity, of being outright antisemitic, of showing her true colors. This last response is rooted in an old conservative tactic of divide and conquer but the genius is that the response also passively validates the outrage culture that the alt right accuses the Left of. Why would the Right try to mimic the Left in being outrage? One tactic was to try and show the hypocrisy of the Left for not outright banning Whoopie from all media, although a lot of the Left agree that Whoopie probably chose the wrong thing to say but doesn't actually harbor anti-semitic sentiments.
Anti-Semitism: The most controversial term in all of this is "anti-semitism." One criticism about Jewish identity is that they're too sensitive and cry a lot. Anti-semitism is not like racism or ageism, that have clear boundaries of violation. Anti-semitism can be used when Jewish people feel excluded from something or feel offended rather than if someone was actually hurt. This is used by the alt right to further bad faith arguments by painting Jewish identity as a global threat for individual identity as long as the Jewish identity is kept in tact. I agree with the alt right in this. Anti-semitism is a weak term that doesn't mean much.
Was Whoopie Goldbergs comments anti-semitic?
The Left would either say yes or defer to a Jewish person to be the judge. This is where I have a problem and I need clarification in Critical Theory and Critical Race Theory.
I thought the idea of critical race theory is to deconstruct circumstances to overcome past prejudices and stereotypes that might passively sneak into our consciousness. Instead of depending on past prejudices, outlooks, and stereotype, we confront our dependence reconsider them.
This makes what Whoopie Goldber said valid because her explanation was that, as black Americans, the black American reality is racism from white people. And that group of white people include Jewish people within that group. Are white people delegitimizing the experience of Whoopie as a black person? Are they saying the experience of Whoopie is wrong? White people can only say this if they don't consider the accident through the Critical Race Theory, no?

Again, to say the holocaust was about inhumanity is perfectly valid when the victims included non-Jews like gays, lesbians, disabled people. Victims also included different ethnicity and nationalities. To say it was about racism and not even include the black victims of the holocaust, just the Jewish victims is also uncritical thinking.
The last issue I'll bring up is the argument "Jews are not white" is a clear slap in the face for POC that are not white passing. The Jew may be a diverse group but if you google internal conflict, you'll find genetic racial infighting between Sephardim Jews and Ashkenazi Jews. As a POC, let me tell you both those groups look white to me. Which should, if Critical Race Theory is to be followed, lead to more questioning and more criticism.
The questioning and criticism chop away at dogma and liberates us from ignorance. But that's only if I understand it correctly. Am I wrong?
