It all makes sence the timing of nord 2 pipe line and the military exersises is a front for an invasion and if the west and ukraine reacts acordingly it also is an excuse to back off. Make no mistake Ukraine was in genuine risk of invasion by Russia but the west and Ukraine did react to the build up the way they did and Ukraine will not be invaded. Putin was hoping for the west to split under the pressure and still is to capitalize on that but now the west is generally more united and Germany is going to have a much harder stance against Russia. When the "just" exercises are going to be over all of this will blow over and Russia is going to be like "we said we were not gona invade". "you bakas were worried for nothing."

Germany usally is fine with coperating with Russia economicly while politically it oposes it now Russia was hoping that Germany isnt going to halt the nord stream 2 project and that would make it apear that the Germany dont genuenly care about Ukraine thus making political a split in the west and doubt in general.
