You know whats funny? The MELTING POINT of firebrick is between 1500-2200 Celsius. The melting point of iron is around 1500 Celsius. And remember officially they burned bodies 24/7.

My bubbe tells the story that the Nazis loved to make fun of drunken Jews so they would pick out the oldest teenagers and serve them German beers all day long instead of food and kept them perpetually drunk for the soldiers to banter with. These same teenage prisoners, young Jews, were then forced to pee on the walls of the ovens to cool them down. Hundreds of young, drunk Jewish teens, user, all lined up wondering if they would be shot as the Nazi soldiers laughed. An SS Mann would walk up and down the line making sure every one of them was peeing on the ovens. Then when they were done, they would go back to drinking. This continued until the end of the war, when the Allies found the young men dying of cirrhosis. They had bladders 2-3 times the size of normal men because of this torture.

think of the cost required to run said ovens as the logistical and industrial infrastructure was being targeted during the largest war in European history. why not just starve them and throw them in a pit?

I appreciate your effort, but most of the heat went through the chimneys. I doubt that you can get 300 MJ from a fatfree person (300 MJ is 20 lbs of pure fat). What's more, Nazis used some of the caloric output from the cremation facilities for teleheating the shower-rooms.
