The point of those conflicts was to destabilize those regions and render them perma-third world. Last time I checked, both Afghanistan and Vietnam are still complete shitholes (i.e. not a real threat to the region). The Taliban will use whatever weapons we left behind to consume itself in internal power-struggles - especially given that our CIA is still routinely assassinating their leaders on the low.

Neither the NVA/VC nor the Taliban were ever a threat to the U.S. We "fought" those wars to enrich our defense contractors, not to defend any real interest of the American people. I agree our country and military are fucked up but we are still more than capable of defending ourselves.

Those simulations are designed to put the US forces at a disadvantage to justify increased munitions spending, thereby stimulating the War Economy. It's theater disguised as a drill.
Also just because India is in a strategic location doesn't mean it has the means to exert any kind of meaningful influence if a war actually broke out. The best India could do is provide leagues of malnourished cannon fodder to legitimate armed forces.
