It is becoming clear that the only way to secure the future of Europe and the Free World at large is for Russia to come kicking and screaming into the international order. This can only be done if the dictator Putin is removed from office and tried for war crimes.
Getting rid of Putin will not be easy but it won't be as hard as the demoralizers suggest either. Putin's army has been decimated since the end of the Cold War. The US would need to mount a strong invasion but it would take no more than half a million men, and we'd have much help from the Russian people once they are sure we intend to finish the job. After Putin is toppled we can demand that Russia be split into a number of semi-autonomous republics in a federal system, each with its own foreign minister, its own security forces, and even its own currency if need be.
We have the opportunity to make 'Moscow' a model state for the rest of the world, to replace its century long dictatorship system with a liberal capitalism. With a little luck, we will see the end of totalitarianism in Eastern Europe, as crackpot dictators like Lukashenko either run to exile or are rightfully tried in the Hague. If a more-or-less-democratic Russia is on offer to former Warsaw pact countries, it will make the European Union obsolete, freeing their economies from the shackles of Brussels. It will also provide much needed stability to much of the European population, from eastern Germany to the Baltics to Italy.
And so the U.S. would move on from its disastrous interventions of the past thirty years. It would be the end of the Atlanticist, pro-Russian, neo-imperialist world that has dominated U.S. foreign policy since World War II and the beginning of a world that is more secure, stable, and prosperous.
