Was Windows 98 based? I just had a rush of nostalgia thinking about it

Time for bed gramps

anything is better than the shit we have now.
windows 95/98 800x600 24-bit true color master race

Windows 3.1 was where it was at man.

98 was based
me was shit
XP was GOAT

more or less... the unespected "freezing" was a serious problem but contrary to popular perception the software was quite optimized a lot more than linux in terms of performance in actual applications

Wouldn't know, I skipped it altogether. I also skipped Windows 8 and 10, jumped straight from 7 to 11.

My computer still looks like that skinned over w10

i just miss the old games, no app store bullshit needed

It was not a total piece of shit - and that's the best compliment a microsoft product can receive.

Still use it on one of my computers. But not connected to the internet anymore.

come home, white man

Still remember getting a piece of the Berlin Wall buying a boxed copy of World at War, digital downloads are soulless.

Windows 2000 Pro was the best

*World in Conflict

7 was good also

Idk I thought it was pretty cool.. simple.. I thought that looking for programs was easier in a sense.

no

Windows 95 had a better start up sound.

Best there ever was. XP was flashy garbage.

Windows XP is where it was at, the Windows 95/98 days are also nostalgic, I loved the games on there. Windows 10 is just fucking soulless man

no, it was always closed source bloatware

It was excellent: fantastic aesthetics and amazing performance. No (((telemetry))) either

XP was amazing. Everything was perfect! You barely ever had complaints and then Vista came out and it got all shitty.

nobody needs more than 16 colors

>I just had a rush of nostalgia
it's not windows 98 you miss user
it's the 90's

they're gone now

No, what was based was there were no normans around tech because the technical barrier to entry was too high unless you were trained at work or something.
In the 90s really only nerds used computers so the internet was like a global secret society of high IQ men.

It looks cool. when it came out it was great, but probably not in comparison to how powerful computers are today in relation to the time we’re living in and its impact on life. An old windows 98 computer was very slow and methodical and you kind of had to just be satisfied with only doing very basic things such as:

>booting up the PC
>connecting to dial up internet
>visiting two websites
>email
>1.5 hours time

It allowed normies to use computers, and thus the internet went into sharp decline, going totally to hell by Y2K, so, no. Just as the "fingerpaint screen" machines of today have allowed absolute retards to further shit in our punch-bowl nowadays.

XP was dogshit until SP2

Kek Vista was an abomination, Windows 7 was meh but nothing compared to XP and 98. It went to shit and became soulless at Windows 8 and above, good days man. Fuck the modern world

Yes

Many doctors here are stuck with it because the company providing the patient database has folded in the 20th century and the chip card reader needs direct access to the serial port, lmao.

Not really. People just think of better times back when Win98 was the standard.
The DOS/Windows amalgamation made for some very nasty crashes and very shitty uptime. It's just there was no need to keep the PC on all day since few had broadband at that time.

Normans. Windows 98 was better than windows 10 (haven't tried 11), but the 90s were shit. Wasn't until about 2019 that my life really got good.

And even with games you were lucky to only have max two or three of the day's AAA titles installed on the harddrive.

The family's first computer was a POS Windows 95 Olivetti living room computer and it had something like a 90MB harddrive.

>protoglobohomo ad bar
>bundling a shit web browser that B$ claimed was "essential" and couldn't be removed without hacks
>based
No.

Windows Vista - system restoration at least every 4 days

I didn’t really start using a computer until my family computer was a gateway with windows millenium edition and a 16gb hard drive. Windows ME was THE virus OS hands down

All I remember was a blue screen of death that couldn't be recovered and losing my data every week.

We had an ME computer. Holy fuck, did that OS suck.

>when the future (present) is so shitty people get nostalgic and praise the cancer of yesteryear
Fucking had it.

Aren’t you supposed to be about “muh freedom”. Fucking Amerimutts.

It was on the 9x kernel meaning it also ran on top of DOS.

XP SP3 - shit
XP SP2 - GOAT
XP SP1 - shit

There was no pebe either

XP before SP2 would actually get wormed during the install process if you had it connected to the internet. But it usually looked like pic related even after SP2.

Easy, it's just zoomers who barely used it when they were little kids. Only the fond memories remain, they never had to deal with real-mode drivers and Plug n' Pray failing.

install gentoo

Attached: gentoo.jpg (474x493, 14.99K)

Damn, I had a Compaq like pic related. Playing Minesweeper and NFS on this was the shit

HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME

Little known fact: the guy who designed windows 98 was fired after completing the design spec because someone thought it wasnt good enough. The the people who replaced him stole that design and that's pretty much what you got, but less.

Fuck, man, I remember being at my grandmother's house with friends the first time I installed it on a computer. Came with that Weezer music video on it. We must have watched that 20 times. The pinball game was pretty awesome too.

No internet back then though. Got that installed at my own house a while later. 2 hours to download enough porn to fill a floppy disk.

Actually this. XP was going to look like pic related before it got pozzed.

Holy shit I think I had the exact same computer, its been eons.

It was pretty cool. It was our first operating system. I built a windows XP machine in 2003 that my kids still use for legacy games. It still goes online too.

Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP, and Windows 7 were all good. ME, Vista, Windows 8, and everything since has been shit.
