This is completely wrong. Hellenistic Athenians treated women like the Taliban. Women were basically servants and didn't even eat at the same table as men. And they were covered up in something similar to a burqa. Ancient Rome also didn't treat women particularly well. The Romans going to Germania found it interesting that German men earnestly listened to female opinions.

The divide isn't racial or religious, it's settled vs nomad. In pre industrial times, settled societies treated women worse and smaller tribal societies, typically nomads, treated women well. This was seen everywhere from Europe to middle east and central Asia. Ancient Persia also didn't treat women particularly well.
