Basically the Research Directorate Awards are a recruiting tool where they bring in high school students that enter a contest that on the surface looks like it's sponsored by a private company like Intel or AMD or NVidia and then they get a phone call saying that they've been selected as the winner of a secondary prize as well, and they get invited to this auditorium, get their plaudits, and then they offer them an NSA job right there on the spot

The Puerto Rican guy with the funny hat, he "designed a piece of software to detect suspicious network activity by monitoring CPU core temperature" and entered the program into the contest for consideration and I guess it was better than a lot of the other submissions

No, seriously, don't ever do a "sleep study" if someone gives you a telephone number and tells you that you can make $50 per night. The guy told me to do it, I called, they said they didn't have any slots open and they were only doing drug studies. I looked into the phone number and it was associated somehow with the U.S Government. The guy who gave me the number disappeared not long after that.
