Fluoride can be helpful at times, but ONLY if it is topically applied. You don't want to ingest it, which is why toothpaste with fluride has poison control number on it.

Flouride is a neurotoxin. You should definitely never give it to kids. The Japanese have an alternative toothpaste that works just as well. Can buy it on Amazon. Apaguard Premio for adults. APAguard apa-kids for kids.

small amounts of fluoride in your mouth are good for remineralization of your teeth. Fluoride in the saliva eventually mineralizes the surface of your teeth and makes them a lot more resistant to acids.
You should never swallow it, since fluoride is toxic in higher doses.
Obviously you should never put fluoride in your drinking water, only mentaly handicapped people would drink fluorided water.
