i watched a few videos and wasn't impressed. clearly Contrapoints is intelligent but they seem to be mostly concerned with building stacks of arguments on arguments on arguments, i.e. if you don't accept the initial building blocks then everything in their chain of logic that follows is meaningless. like a lot of argument-driven political influencers on both sides (i.e. breadtube on the left, shapiro etc on the right) they seem to rely on sounding smart rather than actual substance. i was not surprised to hear that the breadtube ecosystem is funded by liberal NGOs with the goal of producing cognitive shifts in impressionable populations

i should add that i started as a leftist and still consider myself to be a leftist though i reject all establishment politics and politicians especially since the covid 19 police state bullshit started and everyone on the left immediately bent the knee to big pharma. nowadays i am much more focused on mutual aid, local action, and building bridges with like-minded people across the political spectrum with an eye towards "localism" "metamodernity" and "associative economics" i.e. building parallel local structures of economics and governance like cooperatives

You know what is weird the same amount of people that watch Contra points, also watches Family Guy and yet if I go into a supermarket or Big box store and talk to 2000 people and yet 90% of them will know Family Guy and none will know Contra Points, it’s almost like most his views are bots.
That's basically it. Add some moralism here and there, and then of course there's the trick of adding a joke where an argument is lacking. A distinctly remember some pro-fattie argument where contra's whole schtick was basically "there's no philosophical argument against this!! except for aristotle h-haha!" and basically just dismissed that point; like accepting the whole argument hinged on just ignoring a cruical point made by one of the world's greatest thinkers. Contra does this a lot, eases the tension of a contradiction by making a joke and then moving on as if the tension has been resolved.
