It should probably be taught in biology or science class what being trans means on a general level so they know whats going on. In terms of sex ed and health class i guess just give parents the right to opt out of sex ed if they don't want that part.

I would say that kids should be educated in the legacy of slavery and its stain on american society, the central role of the patriarchy, nuclear family, and the repression of women in european imperialism and warfare, and the basics of class consciousness. Questioning gender and all aspects of life is central to a platonic inquiry into the circumstances of one's life. You don't truly know yourself until you've critically examine what you take for granted, after all.

being trans is a medical condition, not an ideology. teaching kids about it confuses them. teach the parents instead. they should be taught what to do. the neutral approach is ideal (unless an extreme case presents itself). the idea is parents should observe and report. the child should be given counseling if they present both non gender conforming behaviors and express distress revolving around their primary sex characteristics (if the kid tries to cut their dick off with a pair of scissors you take them to the shrink, if not don't talk about it). the point is you want to make sure it's the kid, not the parents. you don't want some crazy mom that's upset she didn't have a girl beating the shit out of the kid until the kid puts the dress on.

it goes the otherway too. if the kid shows up at school with bruises all over you investigate the household for abuse. it could be the parent is an alcoholic chaotically beating the kid, it could also be that the parent tried to beat the fag out of the kid. when they check for scoliosis that's something else the school nurse should be paying attention to. sometimes it's not the parents either, but the other siblings. does the kid have fractured orbital bones from a car crash or from their brother punching them in the face, for example.
