If she's actually leaving the country I'll say it's serious, but it's funny that she didn't give a shit about the 3 (maybe 2) people that killed themselves due to Kiwifarms until a week ago. This campaign is clearly 100% about her. And she's really playing it up claiming that Kiwifarms does more harm to minorities than the fucking Daily Stormer.

What I don't get is what is the point of this? He's clearly miserable, he's hanging out with some of the most annoying and psychotic posters possible, and he no longer has a normal life.

Also, I feel like the whole "oh well he'll just move to a different provider" thing is a small cope. Josh was already begging his users to tone things down and not get the site in trouble a little while back, I don't think he would bother asking that if getting Cloudflare dropped wouldn't be a major inconvenience.

There are already industries designed for the sole purpose of DDoS protection for controversial sites. He'll find something, though it'll possibly end up being expensive. Getting dropped from Cloudflare would probably be a big hassle for him but it's not going to permanently kill the site.

He's already openly said that he's given up everything and is unemployable and his entire extended family now hates him. I think you actually need to flip it: all he has is this site. It's his only mark in the world, his only purpose, the only thing he has to do or is even able to do or will ever be able to do. He's going to cling onto it for dear life unless things get so awful for him that it's unbearable, but as long as he lives in the US I don't really see that ever being the case. He has nothing else, and he's in an especially unique position of influence and control because probably no one else can or will run it, so he's not going to let it go.

Not a single person on planet earth has killed themselves because of kiwifarms. The killed themselves because they were profoundly mentally ill. Byuu/near had a thread there with hardly any actual dirt on it for example, he visited the thread himself in fact and seemed extremely level headed about the whole situation. In doing that he basically killed the thread and rendered it inactive, then he came back a few years later threatening to kill himself if it didn't get taken down, completely out of nowhere. I'm not exactly sure if anyone ever found any solid evidence that he really did kill himself, but if he did it's hard to point the finger at kiwifarms for it. He got a hell of a lot more attention from the farms after he suicide threat than he did before it.

They're definitely nowhere near as bad as the Daily Stormer but this is also a massive mischaracterization. Maybe like 8 years ago it was a bit more apolitical and just interested in lolcows in general, kind of like Any Forums was 8 years ago, but in recent years the site is unambiguously alt-right/far-right, and the parts that aren't are still right-wing and conservative with only a few exceptions. Look at the actual posts in any thread in any board and it's very clear. Even the posters in threads about right-wing personalities are pretty much never mocking them for their delusional, hateful beliefs, and in fact often agree with them and what they stand for, but just mock them for making the right look bad or for just generally being embarrassing or having scandals, like how many liberals here mock Contrapoints or whatever.

As a whole, the site is obsessed with trans people and hates progressives and progressivism and in addition to having a million threads centered around that also doesn't hesitate to bring it up in any unrelated thread, again much like Any Forums. Their site is really just Any Forums-lite for people who can't handle anonymous imageboard culture and who also want to make themselves feel better about their insecurities by finding people even worse than themselves.

Of course he is, but that's not an admirable thing, in my view. Hotwheels tried to be the same until he rightfully realized how utterly retarded free speech absolutism (in a non-legalistic sense) is in practice and what its inevitable outcomes are. Online free speech absolutism and its consequences have been a disaster for internet communities.

Especially when fused with an explicit purpose of bullying, stalking, gossipping, and demeaning other people, you're just going to get a concentration of paranoid, hateful fascist outcasts who don't tolerate any dissent opinion from the far-right party line. Any Forums is an absolute shithole. reddit is just even worse, for different reasons. In reality, you want a lot of free speech, but just not such an absolutist approach that you allow your community to be completely colonized, overtaken, infested, and consumed by delusional, ideology-obsessed extremists (whether from the right or left).

The actual reason it's a bad idea online is because pretty much every place has rules against the worst shit like Nazism, pedophilia, etc. In other words, the worst people online will be forced to flock to the places with no real rules. The worse they are, the more likely that they'll be banned from normal places and will congregate in the "freer" places.
Maybe it would be different if the whole Internet was free, but as it is now having little to no moderation is an automatic red flag by default. The few exceptions are places with clearly defined boards to quarantine off some of the worst content, like Any Forums

Name a single website that isn't full of political sperging in 2022. There's no way to keep the ideologues out.
