Kinda same until a few months ago, but people never seem to be free for TTRPGs, convincing them to sit down for a simpler game has proven easier.
I don't own a physical copy but I kinda like the digital implementation (I suck at it, both the AI and my gf always kick my ass).

yeah i’m lucky to have a regular group irl that makes it a priority to play every week. but they are platonic str8 friends and i wish i had a queer/trans/chaser group to be able to explore more queer themes at the table (or erp on the side with desu)

I want to get into more board games, but I have a hard time reading so learning new ones is really hard for me. I really like Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40k, but it's so hard getting a hang of the rules lol. I just watch youtube videos and guess what they are doing then I read and I wing it. I don't have the normal autism associated with nerdy hobbies, but I still like them because they are low key and relaxing.

Oof, I did a similar mistake when I first discovered "traditional" games a few years back. Warhammer is kinda hard to get into as are TCGs because they're very rules heavy.
There are easier to learn and cheaper miniature war games out there tho, if you'd be interested in trying things that aren't Warhammer themes (tho I believe GW just released a WH40k board game?). Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the genre but I've heard Kemet recommended a lot. Then there's games like Eclipse or War of the Ring, tho those might be more complex.
One I absolutely adore is Root, tho that one is territory control, so you can't move units as freely as maybe you'd like if you're into Warhammer.

I've known warhammer my whole life because my aunt had me play with my cousin when I was little, so there is some familiarity and nostalgia towards it. I'm still using my Guard army from 2002 lol. And also there's like a billion warhammer stores within 30 minutes of me so that's pretty nice.
I haven't tried other war games, but I'll look into those. I'm sure some of the random game stores near me would have people that know those games and it would be nice to meet some new people. That's the big reason why I like wamhams, it's really nice getting to meet new people and having a reason to put on fun outfits and look nice.

I asked my local group for some better recommendations, but it's nearly 3am so nobody has gotten back yet :(. But it might be worth looking into simpler games, branching out and getting used to reading with simpler shorter manuals made me get better at more complex games like Yu-Gi-Oh.
Being able to meet people IRL is def the best part. I just wish there were other autistic tranners around to meet.
I don't get it either, but I'm going to guess it's either shame of saying it out loud, or the fact that it's just become a habit for everyone.
