The real truth is that a civil war is impossible. The US military, police, and national guard system are not only overwhelmingly powerful where no one can beat them, but also ideologically pure. We will never see a carnation revolution because the military is so inherently right wing.

The real civil war has already begun, and that is the increasing divide between states. The supreme court has destroyed federal control and the southern states will increasingly pass worse and worse legislation against lgbt people which will result in violent conflict in response, but so long as the states are allowed to do what they want there is no reason for a secession.

I’ve gotta disagree with you here. The military isn’t “right wing” how you’re imagining. The ENTIRE officer corps, for the most part, is liberals. My brother is in the military and he talks to me about how all the upper brass are just centrist neolibs. They’ll do whatever whichever president says, but they wouldn’t have helped trump do a coup, for example. They’re more loyal to the apparatus itself than any implicitly right wing political goal.
