Obviously attraction, and then conversational chemistry. Time passes easily and pleasantly just talking to them, you look forward to spending time with them, you find it easier than usual to open up and be honest with them, you feel like they're listening and doing their best to understand you and they actually give a shit. You can also be comfortable not talking and just having a quiet moment together when nothing needs to be said, it just feels like there is a natural sync there. And they can say all the same about you. This is not a small or shallow thing, it indicates a lot and means a lot, if it's there you'll generally notice it pretty quickly.
If it's not there, and you feel like you're forcing it, or walking on eggshells, or they want you to be someone you're not, or you're constantly trying to fill awkward silences or push past awkward misunderstandings, idk if you can ever really be happy together

attraction is more important desu i had like super good conversations with a guy but i wasnt very attracted to him and that broke my brain because i wanted to keep talking but i didnt wanna lead him on or anything. like if you're well adjusted and you dont invest all your energy into someone you really click with, then i can understand it? but its just so soulcrushing to have this really deep connection but then the attraction just isnt there
