this is a reasonable confounder to consider and certainly plays a role, but it can't come down solely due to this. also, for the record, when I say I'm left-leaning I really do mean it. I completely oppose exploitation of any kind. I just don't think capitalism necessitates exploitation or imperialism, and especially with the help of strong government services, people of every income level can live good lives

no. I just think his entire conception of the supposed contradictions of capitalism are based on false premises. I think his theory would be logical if his premises were true, but I don't think his premises were correct. it's also kind of plainly seen through empirical observation that in the time since he produced his work, there's been no evidence of an unavoidable collapse of capitalism/necessary move to socialism in any country or economy. capitalism hasn't fallen apart and there's no evidence it will anytime soon, because nothing about it is inherently contradictory

also, this is just such a convenient cope, isn't it? for one, not every country in the north has exploited other countries within the past few centuries. nor does exploitation necessarily mean a country will do that much better - especially for its poorest people. obviously exploitation is very unethical and wrong, but that's something to address on its own

The problem with the labor theory of value has to do with completely ignoring that there are other factors contributing to the value of a good than simply the labor that went into it, thus rendering the central idea of "wage theft" by employers and landlords to be absurd. Simply claiming they provide no service or enriching value is just not true, no matter how many times and ways it is claimed. It must be proved they contribute nothing - and the problem there is that this is one of the most exhaustively researched fields in economics, and the results are clearly not supportive of communism.

Well except that they were getting exploited even before capitalism, and standards of living have still massively increased for the global poor, especially in the global south. Southeast Asia has had one of the largest increases in quality of life ever in human history in the last century, largely because of capitalistic "exploitation" of the massive labor market. Capitalism has helped more people on this planet than possibly any other force, besides only Norman Borlaug, and that man was a true force of nature.

Personally though, my problem with communism is that it is a dead ideology. Why cling to symbols of the past? These men were idiots, they knew nothing, less than nothing. Toss them aside, tear down every ideology of the last century, and wake up to realize you're now in the 21st.
