Why are there a lot of trapshit characters in anime but almost no tranny ones? You'd at least expect them to add one token tranny heroine in one of those haremshit anime but nah it's all trapshit.

trannies are problematic.

Because Japan, China, Korea, etc have very different ideas of gender identity and what being "trans" is. Its to the point where I would hesitate to call them trans at all because Western concepts of transgender aren't really applicable to their society.

Tbqh I would say there's probably more non-binary than binary trans people in Japanese media, its just not a huge phenomena to transition to a woman as much as it is to be a "trap". A similar distinction can be drawn to Thailand where "trans women" are called "ladyboys". They aren't really considered women per say there.

Also Japan queer culture tends to be pretty small as well. The Tokyo Metro Area has 38 million people in it, but last time I checked one of their Pride events only had like 10,000 people attend, which is ridiculously low.

There are barely any normal trannies in Japan.

Mariandale was trans and some of the best gallons of my teenage have been spent on her.

Shall I post it?

Post it

that's just straight sex worker trannies not giving a fuck about """labels""", they're like that here too. you think that woman in the webm isn't on HRT, hasn't had surgeries etc? it's just like the "drag" scene used to be here. also Japanese queer culture is probably only "small" because of how many people are either closeted or unwilling to be part of the "community", once it catches on there and in Korea, it will catch on big lol.

all in all I think it's p weird to say that our concepts of being transgender aren't at all applicable to their society, when their society's conception of it is pretty similar to how it was in the west before the DIY boom.

didn't steins gate have a trans character?

I remember my friend talking about it and how bad at good representation it was

No, it was just a femboy trap who was annoyed at how men lusted after him and didn't treat him like a man, and that's why he wished to be a woman.

It wasn't supposed to "represent" anything, it's just an anime character.
This ranks as the worst take on that character I've ever seen, good job. I don't know how you even got that from a character who talks about wanting to be a woman, talks about wanting to be able to dress like one and date a man and desires romantic attention from that man, and above all else, when offered a magic time travel device that allows you to change anything, literally anything you could ever want, the most immediate thing they can offer or think of is "make me a woman". Not winning the lotto or wildly changing history or anything else, just that. On top of that reversing that choice is one of the bigger drama moments in the plot because all of the characters friends agree it's obviously a better life for them and they seriously debate keeping that for them versus the world literally ending. I don't understand any of the brainlet takes I've seen many places who try and claim they aren't trans when it's arguably the most textbook and obvious case of a trans character in an anime.

Because males can become a cute and feminine, but they can't become women.
It's a much healthier view of gender than the west because it's actually in line with reality.

trannies have a lot to learn from ladyboys

Every transwoman I've seen in anime has had a 5 oclock shadow, wore dresses and acted like a queen. but they were respected and usually held positions of trust and authority. (bartender, landlady, etc) Seeing gigahons in ànime being call she/her while other characters didn't gawk at them probably more for my transition than some femboy "I'm not really a girl teehee" shit

It's still a very conservative country with strict gender roles.
Also Japanese bullying is next level shit

different culture, their gender non-conforming identities don't work like in the west. besides, those trap (otokonoko) characters are often middle and high schoolers, full-blown transgender characters are usually older, independent adults

the behavior and motivations of this trap character here actually gets fairly close to what a westerner person would call a transgender

Anime appeals to chasers and they like traps more
