It was admittedly somewhat said in hyperbole, though I do mean that the attraction gay men and straight women usually have towards men is dissimilar.
Gay men want sex with men in the same way straight men want to have sex with women. It's very based on lust, sex is its own end.
Women aren't interested in sex alone as much as men by a long shot. They oftentimes seek relationships with men out of being attracted to power, because power means security, and security matters to the average woman a lot more than sex.
This is apparent because women are typically much more interested in a rather small elite of men who have some form of power available to them, while men will select for physical attractiveness (which oftentimes just means youth) over everything else because they primarily are in it for the sex.
