Realistically speaking anime is becoming more and more mainstream and you can expect that anyone with vaguely nerdy/online interests will probably have at least a few anime they like. Hardcore anime fans are a better group to analyze since they're much more condensed into online forums and typically avoid "normie" shows like AoT, Bleach, Naruto, SnK, etc.

In college I had a group of three male nerd friends who were relatively normal. over the years they become more and more obsessed with anime and started speaking like it with the stupid intonation and facial expressions.
