I've now poked myself for the second time but the anxiety before sticking the needle is still so high how does one get used to this forever? D:
Also is it bad if it leaks a little?

im or subq?
subq little leakage isn't unusual but you should probably assess your entry angle/injection needle length
if you're getting IM leakage make sure you're doing z-method
Subq Its a 27g insulin needle I think.. about half inch
that's a good gauge for subq draw+inject without needle swap but you might have better luck with a 5/8" instead of 1/2"
make sure you're going in at 45 deg with variance bias towards the muscle, not the dermis (i.e. 45-60 deg is almost certainly between the muscle and dermis, 30-45 is almost certainly inside the dermis which is bad)
the big thing to watch out for is hardness in the area afterwards. if you get any hardness, you're injecting some amount too high up
I had panic attacks about it first and have to have someone do them for me. but at one point I had to start helping someone do theirs and it helped me get over my fear
Ah ty so much. A lot of guides I've looked at only really show injections spots and how to properly use the vials. They don't really go into much detail on actually injecting and this helps a lot :)
Mine is 8mm, is it good or bad? 30G, insulin needle 0.5ml
in case you haven't seen it this is fairly comprehensive, good to bookmark while starting injections, notably step #5

>hen gently place the 30 gauge needle on the skin at a 45 degree angle to your skin. While gently touching the skin, you may move the tip a tiny bit to a place with the least sensation. Then while applying the lightest pressure you can, use a gentle twisting motion back and forth of the syringe, like you are spinning it slightly in your fingers. The needle will sort of swim into your skin with minimum sensation. When I do this, the sensation is often so little that I would not know it had happened if I wasn’t watching. The spinning motion seems to cause the nerves, which are sort of tough, to simply move out-of-the-way a bit as the needle moves past. Do NOT jab. Spin the needle in very lightly. Once you get familiar with this technique, you can make a game of it — see how completely painless you can make it.
For me it eventually did, but I had a pharmacist do the weekly injections for me for the first few months.
there's a lot of advocacy for using 8mm for subq injections and if you have no trouble doing that you're all good but the 'risk' it avoids is irrelevant for our purposes (i.e. with a long needle your risk is accidentally injecting intramuscular. if you accidentally inject IM you're still getting your dose and it's totally safe as long as you aspirate. with 8mm your risk is missing the subdermis entirely and getting rashing, little-to-no absorption of medication or much, much worse)
nothing necessarily wrong with 30g but i imagine your draws+injections take fucking forever as a result, that's more a convenience thing
have you been injecting with 8mm regularly without issue? then you're all good
Yeah this is very useful the first time I had a little drop of blood when I did it in my abdomen but this time in my thigh there was none. Definitely book marked
Yeah unfortunately I'm DiY so I'm just pushing through the fear while learning as much as I can ;-;
I did only the last time cause the first I used 16mm… I’m scared I miss the injection layer or something and didn’t get any E at all
trust me you'd know if you injected most of it above the subdermal layer lol you're probably fine
lil drop of blood super normal and should even be expected if you aren't using different draw/inject needles. even if you don't feel it, pushing the needle into the vial is dulling it on a microscopic level, and that will be rough on your flesh as you insert the needle. even with proper pinch technique, don't be too surprised if the tiny dot reoccurs (especially if using same draw+inject needle)
not op but. ive been injecting 0.3mm, 0.18 into my arm. god i hope its correct have been doing it a while
how long is a while? what do you mean by 0.18, I.D.? are you a pipefitter lmao you should refer to that as gauge as is medical standard, we can't tell if you mean 29 or 28G
worst case scenario if you're just goofing and meant 18G that's not safe
it doesn't get easier because your body is reacting to the thought of hurting itself by making you not want to do it.
i was able to do it twice, but by the third time i was just crying and shaking for an hour until deciding to tell my doc and go back to sub e
why are your legs covered in blackheads?
that's severe anxiety my dude don't project that onto other people like it's normal lmao
>hardness in the area afterwards
I've had this a lot, I inject with 1/2" needle at 45°
what does bad mean ;__;
that does not sound normal wtf
doing the pinch+release method and keeping at 45 deg the entire time, fully inserted into the skin?
hardness in the area is generally a clear indication that the compound is getting into the dermis, which also means you aren't actually getting all/most of the medication in your system
