Is there a worst trope than giving your villian an instant regeneration/healing ability?

Delayed healing like using drugs is makes sense because protagonists do it all the time

Give it both so it evens out

Copying powers is up there. It just ends up becoming one of those very annoying fights that has to have some bullshit interference to even end properly.

Villian or hero copying power is bullshit
Side characters copying power is based though because they can come up with some bullshit power up to make a comeback

Okay but can we all agree that protagonists with "the power to neutralize/cancel out other powers!" is the fucking worst?

Yes, but what about Villains with that ability?

Not that bad desu, if it's a villain they will most likely only use it during one or two battles as opposed to the protag and it can be interesting to see how they will counter the ability.

such as....?

>villain can put anyone into an illusion at any time

there is, but you're uninitiated

>Episode 1 : protagonists awakes a very cool and unique power
>Episode 2 : main villian shown to have the same power but better

God I hate this shit

Villains with shapeshifting, specifically abilities that allow you to impersonate someone else. Always leads to the lamest scenarios possible. In fact, it has never been done well in any medium since The Thing

Powers that interact with other powers in meta ways almost always turn into pure cancer.

The best recent example is Shigaraki/AllForOne in BnHA. Not only does he have the ability to fully take and trade around genetic mutations, he pretty much has "every power" and the author needs to keep coming up with new excuses why he wouldn't obliterate anything that even as much as looks his way.
Chrollo would be in a similar boat, but thankfully Togashi is autistic enough to not use the full potential of "having stolen over 100 abilities".

The most tolerable is something like Blackbeard in One Piece since it's just negating a very well defined set of abilities and it is very restrictive too. Additionally, having 2 superpowers is seen as something deeply shocking and unique, and that's always good.

On the same level as any other OP power in your average cheap isekai. It's like authors completely gave up on char development

>Character has flame powers
>Is a hot head

That's not a problem in itself, because any half decent writer can have the characters whose powers are neutralized change tactics accordingly (like a magic wizard changing to their guns or arrows instead, or tk user throws rocks instead of using the power directly).

The problems is that the writers who usually come up with neutralizing abilities are hacks who can't think beyond one factor to decide fights.

Would be acceptable if they worked like actual illusions instead of reality warping by another name

I liked the way mirage used it in the x-men movies, as well as black widows' desguise in winter soldier.
