I'm no expert but I watched the Cinderella Girls anime first and realized how cute Miria was, continued with the U149 manga because Miria was a main character in it, and now I'm playing Starlight Stage. I didn't really feel like I was missing anything. Just go with whatever series has a girl you like.
Not counting my experience hearing Idolmaster music from Taiko.
