Using the theory of time dilation going by the Fibonacci sequence and some very generous assumptions for both Reg's journey up and how long the 2nd and 4th layer arcs took, for Faputa, Reg likely hasn't been gone more than 3 weeks
It's both funny that she's acting like a pet whose owner has been gone for an hour and sad for her that Reg is like a different person after having been gone for so short a time

death is literally one of the best outcomes when it comes to the abyss, I'm really sure it's not what actually happens, just like how a lot of shit is misinterpreted/exaggerated in the manga to make the world feel more natural, remember the curse-repelling vessel that doesn't repel the curse?
I really like how in made in abyss not all lore-dumps are actually right and sometimes the characters misinterpreted something, even nowadays it's still debatable if what the know-all Bondrewd theorized about Mitty's immortality appearing because of the two-fold curse is actually right, specially after the author hinted about different properties of the blessing and the possibility of Mitty's own blessing in an interview
