Say what you want, but it's extremely weird how badly buggy was treated out of fucking nowhere. Not even that long ago he was just the funny failing upwards clown guy, not to mention being basically shank's brother.
It seems weird that out of nowhere, he's being treated like this. Which tells me that either Oda has gone completely schizophrenic and suddenly hates buggy, or that he's setting it up so he'll, i don't know, awaken his Chop-Chop fruit and suddenly turn into an Yonkou-tier fighter that can oneshot anyone who isn't an logia.

No it wasn't, he's had it coming the moment he bamboozled a gaggle of Impel Down prisoners into being his lackeys. It then became even more of an inevitability when he became a WARLORD, something so far up where he should be status-wise as a pirate. He's a gag character that Oda loves, he's drawn as a clown for a REASON, this is clearly a moment Oda expects us to be humored by because Buggy being here at all is amusing period.
