Been on a gundam binge for the first time, I've liked what I saw so far. Next up is ZZ Gundam, but I've heard I should skip it. Is there any reason for that or is my friend talking out of his ass?

Grow a brain and decide for yourself.

Don't listen to his sorry ass, the only series you should skip are IBO and arguably AGE (though it it only get horrible in the 3rd part)
Watch everything and leave Turn A and G Reco till the end.

Fuck off
Apparently ZZ is shit, but that's only second hand opinions that I heard. As far as I'm concerned I'm skipping it because I couldn't care less about any UC mainline entry that doesn't have Char.

ZZ has more, longer fights than zeta and the original, but worse story and characters, watch it at 2 times speed.

ZZ's early episodes can cause some tonal whiplash to those coming straight off of Z, they're quite different from what you've been trained to expect so far. The later episodes are probably my favorite Tomino work though, so I say it's still worth watching. There's also the fact that ZZ continues where Z left off and tells the end of the Gryps Conflict, including the end of the Titans and Axis Zeon.
People who tell you to skip ZZ mostly do so because they believe Amuro and Char to be the main characters of the UC timeline, and both are entirely absent from the series.

You have to watch ZZ to understand the back-drop for CCA. ZZ might not be as good as zeta or 0079 but its essential to the UC timeline.

don't, it has one of the best moments in uc gundam.

It's got one of the most based protagonists in Gundam so I recommend watching if only for Judau's shenanigans. Remember Wong from Zeta? Man tries to punch Judau and the latter guts him in the over it. Man doesn't take people's bullshit and once the story is finished does the smart thing and decides to fuck off to Jupiter and away from the conflict surrounding Earth.

ZZ is great, just different from Zeta. Watch it.

ZZ sucks but you can't skip it

ZZ Gundam starts off with a very slapstick comedic tone with incompetent team rocket tier enemies that can feel frustrating or pointless coming right after the intense tragedy and trauma of Zeta Gundam but once they fix their ship and get back out into space after like 17 eps the incompetent villains start getting warped and twisted from their repeated failures and becoming genuinely evil and intimidating in their pursuit of victory, the repercussions of which shift the tone back into that of Zeta gundam.

Its actually my favorite gundam but you can totally skim the beggining eps until they get back into space without missing anything of note, if you're finding the tone and atmosphere too insufferable

ZZ is extremely polarizing and you'll definitely find yourself with a strong opinion about it. You'll either love the zany cartoon antics or intensely hate the show and most of the characters in it.

If you're interested in watching Unicorn, then you can't skip ZZ. If you're planning to go straight to late UC after CCA then it's okay to skip ZZ.

Only faggots skip ZZ.

I don't know what's so hard to understand. Zeta, while great, was such a bummer of a show. Assuming you go in blind as well the ending will definitely leave you with a fucked up feeling. Why not then spend a couple episodes with some teenagers being fucking stupid? It's not like the show isn't self-aware either, Bright acting as the sole veteran(which makes him an excellent self-insert for fans who feel just like yourself) in a crew full of mostly idiots keeps things lively. Then you're treated to one of the greatest second halfs of a Gundam series + more Haman. Basically if you skip ZZ you're gay.

>if you skip ZZ you're gay
THIS. Watch it OP-kun.

If you're trying to get into a series but let people tell you what to watch/not watch you're just a faggot. Watch it and decide for yourself.

Everyone keeps saying ZZ is necessary but I don't remember anything in CCA that requires watching ZZ to know. To answer OP's question: ZZ is shit in the beginning but gets better half way thru. Don't blame anyone for not sticking with it.

>but that's only second hand opinions that I heard. As far as I'm concerned I'm skipping it
Brainless retard.

>no char no good
kys Amuro

ZZ is a garbage show almost from start to finish. It treats the returning characters from Zeta like shit and the new characters are almost exclusively annoying and unlikeable and the story isn’t much better. To top it of the MC is the biggest Mary Sue MC in Gundam till Kira comes along.
The only episodes worth a damn are the episodes on earth, and the show even undermines what happened in those later on.
With that said make your own decision, faggot. Why do you so desperately need Any Forums to decide how you spend your time? Just watch a few episodes and decide for yourself instead of being an invalid.

hello I'm the dude who made a gundam ZZ thread days ago, asking people how they felt about this anime while i'd just completed it myself. if there's something i can say about ZZ is:
i feel this is the best Tomino anime when it comes to achieving the balance between its comedic and its serious tone, if I were to compare it with his 2 previous comedic shows in Xabungle and L-Gain, which i find, although they're good and still an essential Tominocore watch, can be a bit banal when it comes to delivering its comedic aspect. however, the problem comes from how it's still a pretty huge shift of style from Zeta, especially for someone who isn't used to happier Tomino anime.
Characters are definitely quite a miss here, Glemy Toto's rise to be a big bad villain in the end is messy to say the least, Emary being blatantly used as a comedic part in ZZ so Bright starts thinking to cheat despite being married with kids rubs me off the wrong way, the part where they didn't appropriately punish Beccha and Mondo for being a bunch of sabotaging bastards at the start, only for them to actually have a more important role on the 2nd half of ZZ over my boy Iino who's a bro from the start but only got to ride Mega Rider is also strange. Elle who showed more intimate moment with Judau ended up with Beccha also pissed me off, since i don't really remember many intimate moments between Judau and Roux like godamn Puru spent more time together with Judau.
what people like to exaggerate here their criticism here is about ZZ destroying Haman's character, saying Tomino reduced her to just be a woman wanting to conquer Judau's dick which I honestly didn't feel that at all. She didn't appear as much as I expected either.
Overall yeah it's a pretty steep in decline of quality compared to Zeta, but overall you should still watch it.

These damned shippers again. Don't mind them bro.
