97 is best but it only covers a quarter of the manga
no version of the anime will give you a complete experience
read the manga
As an incel, I can relate to Guts a lot. We've both suffered much in life.
Me probably a bit more if I'm being honest.
This. All of the other adaptions are shitty uncanny-valley CGI shitfest. CGI will never work with anime, I don't know why studios keep doing this.
The main character being portrayed by an obese black woman really worked.
The manga animong
One should also keep in mind that the 97 anime changes small but important details to make the story self contained. It woks really well.
But if OP wants the full story then they are better off just reading the manga since going from anime to manga will leave big holes in the long run.
Guts got some pussy though

Having Guts magically teleport out of the eclipse without SK or even an introduction to Godot is pretty fucking lame
Read the manga first, then go with 1997 anime.
>without SK
That is exactly the reason it is able to be self contained. As soon as you introduce SK it opens a gigantic bag of worms.
I also disliked the open ending at first. Took me a few years to actually appreciate it.
Think of it like this, since the anime will end there anyways, why wouldn't it just cut out of the gruesome scene and into the end? It's way more impactful than having SK swoop in and have a whole little rescue scene for 5 minutes and then awkwardly cut away at some later point. You are left with the disgust of the rape, your answer to Guts' hatred in the beginning and unlike the manga absolutely no resolution to his vengeance.
Watch the 2012 movies, but always play the 1997 opening at the beginning of each. Then, you read the manga until Conviction, after which you watch all the cutscenes of the Dreamcast game, then you read the manga again, but always listen to the 2016 and 2017 OPs before reading the chapters. This is the optimum Berserk experience, you'll thank me later.
>This is the optimum Berserk experience, you'll thank me later.
Trolling like that in a Berserk thread? You have disappointed me, user.
For the anons talking about 97 Berserk's lack of Skull Knight, and Guts just inexplicably escaping the eclipse. The 97 anime was my first Berserk exposure, and the explanation that I had come up with was that Griffith basically just let Guts live out of spite. As a creature of pure evil, Femto probably just thought it was funny to let Guts live on, and continue to struggle and suffer in vain.
Read the fucking manga
>and the explanation that I had come up with was that Griffith basically just let Guts live out of spite
That's a great way of looking at it.
Many anons on here have said the same thing about the manga, since he is so retardedly powerful he could have killed him if he had so wanted.
Also it fits his personality considering how condescendingly he just dismisses Guts while they are in that MC Escher painting.
watch the 90s anime and the 3rd cgi movie
it really does hammer home the suffering poor guts had to endure
