Do you lose respect for a mangaka when their follow up works are just bad compared to what made them popular?
I honestly do, it just exposes their first work as a fluke.

No, cause making manga is hard
death note pilot was a kid who could kill people then bring them back using an eraser. these manga authors are nothing without smart advisors
i do
its like they were using a ghostwriter to write all of those complex stuff.
Death Note is neither the artist or writer's first work and even then they exposed themselves half way through DN
>their first work as a fluke
bakuman did okay
the real fluke is Kishimoto who only got famous thanks to the editor.
>Narushit and Samurai 8
I lost all respect for Ken Akamatsu after the ending of Negima and the entirety of UQ Holder.
Platinum End was good.
Was the anime a bad adaptation? Because that wasn't very good
Not really. Audience tastes change and you can’t really predict a hit with an ever changing market. I think of Kishimoto, who I don’t think is a good author but i can accept he is an incredibly commercially successful author, going from Nardo to Samurai 8. Like Naruto was never a good series, S8 was about as good as early nardo but the former succeeded while the other failed spectacularly. The shonen demographic just shifted that much
I lose respect for a mangaka when the ending of their population work is bad
Yes but inly a little. I see it mathematically, if you have a 10% chance if making a good manga (might be less in reality) you only have a 1% chance to make 2 great manga in a row.
is impossible to always make great hits, but I can't lose respect for an illustrator which art becomes even more good, but as a storyteller I can
Yeah I agree. However the pilot could have worked well as a one shot horror story, it wasn't bad. Obata and Ohba wouldn't have reached worldwide popularity though.
Pre-Shippuden Naruto was unironically amazing. I haven't read Samurai 8 but I've heard it was a flop.
Platinum end is better than Death Note though.
No, it was garbage.
it could never be good with an MC like that
Nah they just hit different
Depends on how i felt about their most popular work. If i liked it, i always root for them to keep trying and hopefully pop off next time. If i didnt, i just enjoy the schadenfreude
