I was rewatching an episode recently and I forgot there's a scene where Usagi attempts to kick Nephrite in the fucking head.

I never understood it until I watched Hime-chan no Ribon from the same year, but Sailor Moon is pretty heavy on the male gaze for the genre it's in. Supposedly, the male manga editor had some influence, including the idea for the sailor fuku outfits.

I'm not a woman or complaining user. I just never realized how much it changed shoujo/mahou shoujo until I watched shows older than it.

Different. Most of us who grew up as boys in the 90s were secretly watching this show, very few of us cared about cardcaptors. That should give you an idea.

Depends what you're into I think.

If you're more interested in action/villains/mild fanservice elements = Sailor Moon's better

If you're more into slice of life/coming of age and don't care about fanservice from the MCs (or you're more into prepubescent girls I guess) = Sakura

This is a good way to put it. This is kind of the point I was getting at when I said Hime-chaan and Sailor moon are very different too. Hime-chan and a lot of these other shows are coming of age shows for girls, not that there isn't a secondary audience of men who think the shows are cute.

I like most of these shows because they are calm and nostalgic. Sailor Moon is just straight up fun though.
