Do some sketching exercises before you actually start drawing.
Also, something like a Cintiq is completely worth it. I'm drawing SEIBAH right now and it's made the whole process that much easier and more precise making everything way faster.
Try seeing if anyone in your area is selling theirs if you don't want to drop 1-2.5k
