I like Shinji. I see aspects of myself in Shinji. But I definitely don't want to be him.
Pre-Rebuild, I leaned heavily AsuShin with the caveat that it clearly couldn't be canon in the original series/EoE, it's purely fanfiction happy ending wish fulfillment.
But I'm just happy Shinji's happy with Mari, in the end.
Its not that I wanted to get with Asuka vicariously through Shinji, I just want him to be OK at the end of things. A cute gf is a good bonus.
