The same problem Big O had in general. Not enough character development. They have a great plot and action setup but then they are stuck doing 15 minutes of Giant Robot Fight every episode. We end up knowing just about nothing about our cast, all of whom look really interesting. The writers were also to chicken to hook up Roger and Dorothy and to make human robot relations a common thing in the city. THAT would have been a chilling sci fi twist.

user the whole show is centered around mystery, no one has memories which is why we don't know much about them leaving the viewer to make their own interpretations. Also there's plenty of development with roger and dorothy but you clearly weren't paying attention.

NTA but anyone who hasn't watched mecha or toku before will completely miss all the references and not understand that's what it's supposed to be. Mainly ultraman and red baron.
