the first like 30-40 chapters are at a full on breakneck speed. the anime only covers like the first 30 chapters give or take.

I think I made a typo. That was supposed to be chapter 12.

Ichikawa never promised a sea arc. But "There is" was in Ch 96, and the Child not that much earlier, and she put them in there.

You just have to accept that the story is full of red herrings/dropped plots and she did not spend the hiatus thinking up some genius ending but went with whatever she was going to go for in the first place.
