You could make a point for Yusuke and Keiko, but they literally have the same dynamic as Winry and Ed, only Keiko is even more irrelevant to the plot.

Ed and Winry have THE MOST LOGIAL reason to get together out of any other couple I have ever seen in shounen. They are childhood friends, from the same hometown, who went through a deep deep trauma together, for gods sake SHE GAVE HIM AN ARM AND A LEG so he could walk again, she literally made the man whole again! And this is the "worst" dynamic in shounen history? OP just admit no one will ever love you and you're going to die alone if you look at a true love story like this and think its "the worse".

It's extremely basic is all. Nothing was off-putting or offensive about it.

This, at the end of the day FMA is a shounen manga, meaning the romance is always going to take a back seat to the action. FMA sprinkles in the romance and just hits you from the get go with EdxWinry and doesn't try to bullshit you by having other options. Ed shows no interest in any other woman for the entire series and winry shows no interest in any other man. It's less:Will Ed and Winry get together, and more will Ed and Winry survive the story to end up together. It doesn't beat you over the head with it and it means FMA is free from the faggotry of shipping wars. Maybe that's why it's good.
