Why is Japan so obsessed with talent? What does talent even mean?

Kill yourself Narutard.

Kind of funny how Naruto was actually more talented than Neji all along, as long as he could focus his ADHD ass on something

Take your reddit series discussion back to r/reddit where it belongs.

a talent is a roman term referring to roughly enough money to provide for yourself and your family for three years, and was a unit of measurement for the wages of skilled laborers and artisans. So derived from that, being talented means being able to earn a comfortable living by putting your skills to good work.

Talent means using worms as crayons.

Saying someone is better than you because they're "talented" is a defeatist cope to deflect away from a lack of work ethic.

hinata's a hoor

Talent = asian jeans.
There is no other exemple.

For the longest time, people accepted there were other people who were literally born better than others. If a lowly man rises to the heights of a great man, you have a comedy. If a great man falls to the ranks of a lowly man, a tragedy. Japan is closer to that tradition than, say, America, which was founded in the principle of a fundamental equality and that anyone can get ahead by their own merits. Democracy came to Japan but they don't fully buy it. There must be something which to accord the hero's success, hence "he was special all along". That's the humor of OPM, Saitama claims his ridiculous strength is the result of a simplistic training regimen and no one believes him.

>For the longest time, people accepted there were other people who were literally born better than others.
You say that as if this belief is falling by the wayside. If anything the modern understanding of genetics proves this to be more true than ever before.

>What does talent even mean?
Zaibatsus

>That's the humor
if that is humorous then someone should tell the Germans they've finally found their match

You realize he's literally an antagonist. The whole point is that he's wrong.

>For the longest time, people accepted there were other people who were literally born better than others
because they are?
you can't expect me to believe a literal retard is as functional as a normal person
>fundamental equality and that anyone can get ahead by their own merits
eh, more people are entitled to the same rights

Hell, take sports. Raw competition where the inequality between participants will make itself apparent. The thing about equality even in America is that no one fully buys it. Or they don't really REALLY want that. We hate nobilities and aristocracies on principles, but we're always making them up for ourselves.

Which is why I disagree with the user above that's it's just people coping with being lazy. It can be but then people have "worked hard" forever and hasn't risen beyond their station, and the concept itself is nebulous. If anything, we are reluctant to admit anyone is better, that there are external factors, and that we have any limitations. All our beloved success stories put emphasis on a work ethic because we want to hear that, it's relatable. Ironically, hard work is the easy solution for us. Just do it! and all that. BUT if you pay attention, you'll notice there were a number of other factors important to their success.

There's a literal child becomes chess grandmaster, tell me thats not talet. Train 100 children and none of them will come even close

Also, I don't hate "special snowflake" MCs in themselves, just trash execution like Naruto's. That's just a story getting too long for its own good.

Regardless of the actual truthful existence of talent or genetic advantages or whatever, it doesn't benefit society to acknowledge this. What benefits society is that everybody works as hard as they possibly can, and dangling the carrot of "you can make your wishes come true, so long as you work hard enough!" is motivation to do this.
Now, this sounds pretty cynical, but I don't think it's a negative thing at all. Whether or not it actually is possible to do everything you want if you work hard enough, it's still better to make a serious attempt and to have these lofty goals than to make no attempt at all and give in to hopelessness.
I see it the same way as religion: whether the belief is true or not, there's still very good reasons for people as a whole to believe, both on a societal and individual scale. It's not good to have no or very low goals, it's detrimental both for you and for society.

Yeah scrub, run everyday and you'll be as fast as Usain someday lmao

>OG Naruto
>Neji was wrong and just coping because being born into an abusive clan, Naruto proved him wrong by working his ass off to earn everyone's respect
>Shippuden
>Neji was actually right and Naruto is the reincarnation of Ninja Jesus
imagine fucking up your own series and morals this badly, Kishimoto is one of the biggest hacks in manga history

acnkowledging genetic advantage and talent doesnt hurt. wasting time on unreachable goals, when you could spend them on reachable ones, now that hurts.

Ninja Jesus was stuck in a cycle of brother wars until Naruto came along though. It's a bit contradictory but also shows that even here Naruto worked his ass off for the peaceful outcome.
