The series I'm scanalating is supposed to be pretty funny, but some readers have said that it feels more upsetting than anything, and I'm sure it's because of my translation. I try to be pretty loyal to the original, so often it sounds stiff, but I realize changing the wording there or adding something here would improve the result. How much do you change to make sure the meaning is conveyed? I probably just need a good proofreader, don't I.

Asking this again since I didn't get a reply.
Does anyone remember the name of that one manga where the high school boy ends up living with some high school girl, and the high school girl turns out to be the voice actress of the boy's waifu? The only other thing I can remember about it is that it's a manga adaptation of a light novel.

Maybe it's just redditors not understanding dark humor. Or maybe it's you. Hard to say without examples.

Can you give some examples of things people have complained about?
>I'm translating a drama rape erotica
>I accurately reflect some of the gruff language used in it using phrases like “If you talk to that sodding mushroom bloke again I'll bloody kill him”
>Comment section is full of people praising the translation for being very funny when it wasn't my intent to be funny, just accurate
What am I doing wrong? Are they just not used to gruff language in translations?
Post a page, nigger, we're not ESPers.
Maybe they're simply incredulous at the notion that a British person could find a lethal weapon.

Can somebody help me with the red bubbles? I understand WHAT it's being said but not WHO is saying it.
It's either the girl, which makes more sense given that the lady says then "Didn't I tell you", but from the context I'm not sure she would call her おばあちゃん、or it's the lady asking a rhetorical question, but the it wouldn't make sense to say "Didn't I tell you".
>I try to be pretty loyal to the original, so often it sounds stiff
If the original wasn't stiff sounding, then your translation wasn't loyal now was it?
look at the fonts
I can't even read, but check the fonts. These bubbles are in the same font as the thought bubble, so those are probably girl's thoughts.
Also, you have no excuse for not italicizing thought balloons.
thank you. makes perfect sense now. and you are right about using italic.
I use a different font for thoughts desu
