did anime just stop airing on tv? I remember fox and abc had some, wb had some, and CN had some
sci-fi also had some, but I was either too young or we never had that channel when it aired
now my only option seems to be premium channels, stream it, settle for the funimation suckfest called toonami, or obtain the anime through other means

I always miss this, I usually try to emulate the feeling once and a while. I'll pick out a "schedule list" and even play a collection of [wsg] adult swim style bumps in between the anime episodes with some vidya and other commercials from the time period to fit in perfectly with that early to mid 2000s vibe. I even still have a box full of VHS tapes from me recording from the start to end of Adult Swim each night for a while.

A ton of other countries had similar late-night anime programming blocks tho, where they showed the more adult oriented stuff. Similar to how a lot of countries had Saturday morning cartoon blocks or afternoon blocks where they showed Pokémon and Naruto. It's just a model that worked well, so many western anime fans share that experience.

Yeah, It was pretty fun. Me and my sister used to stay up watching this from 2003-2010, every friday or saturday night we'd make little pillow forts and camp out, We'd finish watching toonami yu yu hakusho or naturo while eating one of those digornos pizza then we'd watch inuyasha. Neon genesis was NEVER fun to watch it was just this really slow paced boring anime with shinji always looking sad and depressed.
The only thing i really wanted those days was to ask out my korean crush, and maybe she could sneak into my room through my window and we stay up watching toonami and adult swim all night.
