I read the first 6 volumes, and so far, I don't really get what people like about CSM. Sure, it's a fun kind of trashy whenever fights happen, but the characters are all unlikable cunts that have nothing going for them, the story is meandering, it made me chuckle twice at best so far, and it feels like meaningless cynicism that looks like it's poking fun at something, but I don't get what.

The appeal is in its cynicism and irreverence, and it doesn't hurt that the artwork is above average. You aren't supposed to root for the characters because they're so likely to die, there's no sense in becoming attached to them. Denji has no grand ambition beyond getting laid. Not everything needs to be high art, just enjoy the ride.
