user, do you need a toothpick? You seem to have some fecal matter still stuck in your teeth.

I haven't seen that one yet so I googled it and found this.

Pork or Cagliostro if that counts.

The flying pig nigger was one of the worst, incredibly boring. He has such an obnoxiously dry personality.

Loved him personally but I can see how the movie will not work for you at all if he's not your type of character. Also the dubs I saw made him a disservice.

The Wind Rises isn't good

The Wind Rises is my personal favourite

hmm

I'm right the other guy is wrong

How am I supposed to know which one you are.

Wind Rises is only good if you watch it under a critical eye considering Miyazaki's career path. Why he would choose that person and subject matter is so much more interesting to think about than the actual themes of the movie. If it's your first Ghibli film, it will probably be average, but if you have a few under your belt, it becomes one of the best.

>The actual themes of the movie
>The race to perfect your art because is what your country needs right now
>It's so crucial that even the love of your life on her deathbed understands it takes priority
>You succeed at it even when defeat is all that awaits you
Nah, themes of the movie are way better than the rest of Ghibli movies and their weak as fuck ends. At least for a Miyazaki film.

I think there's plenty to appreciate even without considering how it relates to Miyazaki himself. In fact honestly I find relating it to Miyazaki to be the most boring reaction.

Your interpretation of the movie is very different from mine and frankly, I think it sucks.

The main character in the movie dreams of flight and creating planes, and through war efforts, he finds the invaluable chance to accomplish his dreams of crafting the ultimate flying machine. I remember this scene of the movie where he's explaining the new model's diagrams, and with a disappointed tone, he claims that the plane would be faster and more versatile without the guns, and everybody in the room laughs. "What's the point of a plane without guns?"

What I think the story is trying to communicate, is that even though his creation will be used for bad things (IE killing in combat), his desire to create a flying machine is pure. His wife knows it, and that's why he falls in love with him and allows him to go finish his masterpiece with a clean conscience. In the end he accomplished his dream, he didn't find "defeat", the Japanese Army did, but Jiro achieved success.

Now for the Miyazaki parallel, the planes are clearly a mirror of Miyazaki's many masterpieces. Nausicaa, Mononoke, Castle in the Sky. He and the Studio practically made anime an international phenomenon, it was what truly an achievement, but what did it achieve for his home country? Making anime a mainstream force in Japan created Otaku culture, this disgusting, degenerate industry that's been eating at Japan's soul for decades. That's why the famous quote "Anime was a mistake" is so fucking hilarious. That the man that made anime what is today would grow to denounce it.

But in the end, he returned to his craft, because the desire to create and tell stories is pure. He spent his whole life creating a 'net negative' for society, but his dreams were genuine, and he didn't do anything with evil intent. That's the whole point of the movie, that consequences shouldn't matter to dreamers.

"Muh Japan" is such a more boring topic than all that, imo

You know he never actually said anime was a mistake, right?

But you do know the statements he made that made people say that memetic quote? He fucking hates Otaku and the shitty anime (You) watch.

>Some people spend their lives interested only in themselves. Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans.
You're reading words that aren't there

>He fucking hates Otaku and the shitty anime (You) watch.
I doubt he hates Golden Kamuy
