Unironically right now.
Blending of 2D and 3D elements is getting really damn good. Colour design is quite stunning in recent years and stuff like really thin, barely noticable outlines have gotten quite rare.
Manga adaptations have never been as good as they are right now. They are faithful to the manga, actually adapt large portions of the story or even the whole thing and are very good looking because the production is split up in several seasons for the best possible outcome.
Maybe we're lucky and Japanese stick to 2D drawing, if we get unlucky in a decade or two it's unironically be all 3D or ai generated.
>3D anime
the problem is fucking video game studios are better at making 3D anime than the actual animation studios are.
Look at CyberConnect 2's Ultimate Ninja Storm series or especially the cutscenes in DBZ Kakarot. 3D anime should look like that. No idea why this C grade game developer that makes bad licensed anime games mogs the entire fucking industry of professionals.
Dangaioh looked nice but it doesn't have anything else going for it
>Dangaioh looked nice
Exactly
Why would it be unusual for game studios to be better than animation studios at 3D.
Doing 3D stuff is their whole point while Japanese animation is still hand drawn by a large majority, they just use computers for composing and stuff like digital effects and filters.
Mid eighties to mid nineties if you ask me
>Blending of 2D and 3D elements is getting really damn good
Japanese comp work for cgi is some of the worst on planet earth, dollar for dollar.
I think you're huffing paint.
>colour design is quite stunning in recent years
There've been more and more attempts to do fully 3D anime in recent years with more obviously on the way and the only mild success was Blade Runner: Black Lotus.
meanwhile this came out in fucking 2010 on Xbox 360 and it looks far better than every modern attempt at this.

All these new technologies just make japs lazy. I would post the google earth filitered image but at this point everyone has seen that
Japan crawled up its own asshole and died 30 years ago. In 100 years Japanese will only exist in zoos.
I'm not talking about cgi specificall just digital elements used to spice up the drawings.
Like all the digital effect shit Ufotable does or how IG uses 3D backgrounds with 2D character action to create some cool camera work for their action scenes.
Compare the stuff airing today to what was airing 10 years ago and you'll know what I mean.
>spamming color and effects
>good
Well yeah. Or would you rather everything looks gray and washed out?
You dont have to go from one extreme to another
>They are faithful to the manga
Why is that automatically a good thing ?
Looks awful
UFOtable also has unlimited budget. Any mildly talented studio given that much money to make something would end up about the same.
contrarians
I don't know what their budget per episode is but I guarantee you it's about double what most other studios get. Again you give even a mildly experienced director ten million dollars per episode and he'll make good sakuga. UFOtable isn't impressive, just throw money at it until it looks amazing, wow such talent
Is Dangaioh the most cursed franchise in anime history?
So Ufotable is the only studio in Japan with large budgets for their anime? Why doesn't anyone else do stuff that looks like theirs?
>just throw money at it until it looks amazing
Because that's how productions work.
I much prefer the warmer, hand painted look of older stuff. Obviously there was bad stuff then and there's good stuff now, but generally the colours in a lot of new anime are a huge turnoff for me. I'm a huge Chainsaw Man fan but the anime just looks bad to me. Some new shows I think look good are Dragon Maid S2 and Heike Monogatari
yeah its whack as fuck how much better dbz video game cutscenes look than the new dbs movie
Heike, for example. Looks very nice. Way better than KnY.
Minky Momo caused the earthquake that ruined Masamune Shirow's life and killed over 6000 people.
And here's a screenshot from the last episode I saw from the show I'm currently watching, Seisenshi Dunbine. Awesome colours.
promare was overhated, probably the best anime movie to come out since then.
>Heike Monogatari
Not realted to how it looks but im so dissapointed at the cringe OC
The problem with modern anime is the colors are too bright, they shoulf just put a beige filter over the whole thing, itd be easier on the eyes
I think the problem is Trigger are talentless hacks and everything people associate with them was actually Gainax
Videogames have much bigger budget and people who have been working with 3D for decades
Yeah i swear it hurts my eyes. Kimetsu is the worst. Its mainly set at night but they turn all the effects to their max
The main girl was too hot
