Trends come and go. Back in the past most anime were super robot.

Most mecha shows were toy commercials for 12 year olds, and a lot of that shit was like "we wanna make a scifi show but need to convince the execs to fund it" so you got stuff like Ideon and Baldios or even Gundam itself.
I dunno what the deal with Isekai is but most of them are just bad fantasy series and I guess they make their money on merch for manchildren instead.

You need something to replace it with. What exactly will take the place of the newly-won salaryman audience that before isekai didn't give a shit about anime at all (unless they were idolshitters, but those are a separate pair of shoes)?

Isekai is shit, it's mostly the idea of "hey, this world is doomed,but maybe there is a new one after this one"
Hell old shows and space shows are becoming more popular since being another form of escapism

From those stats there were 182 non-isekai anime in 2012 and 186 non-isekai anime so far this year so if you hate isekai this year offers more choice.
